Congratulations on getting close to the final phase – your new employment letter. If you are yet to be invited for an interview, I think it is commendable that you are already preparing for it.
There is a lot that I have to say about interviews so in this post, I will simply introduce some tips/questions using bullet points. In the coming weeks, I will dedicate post to selected tips and questions mentioned here.
You Have Been Invited For An Interview
When you receive an interview invitation, it is important you reply the invitation. In your reply, say a thank you for the invitation and conclude by confirming your attendance.
Most recruiters end their invitations by asking for a confirmation but with all that excitement we feel when reading such emails, most of us hardly read up to the section that says “Confirm your attendance”.
Preparing for The Interview
It is important to prepare before going for an interview. Where possible, do a mock interview and speak out your responses like you are already at the interview. Practice makes perfect.
- Find out about the company
- Study your CV
- Prepare questions to ask on the day. Most times you will be given the opportunity to ask questions. If you must ask a question, make sure it is a smart and relevant one.
- Pick out something suitable to wear for your interview. You can never go wrong with a suit. Look tidy and professional
- Plan your movement for your interview. Don’t be late because you may be penalised for late coming or disallowed to participate in the interview altogether (I have seen this happen in many cases)
- Take a copy of your CV along with your certificates for the interview.
Common Interview Questions
The following are common interview questions. In the coming days, I’ll dedicated a post to selected questions from here;
- Tell me about yourself
- Why are you interested in this position?
- Why are you interested in our organisation?
- What do you like about your current job
- Why do you want to leave your current job
- IF you do not have a job, what are you doing at the moment?
- What are your strengths/weaknesses?
- What skills could you bring to this job?
- Have you ever managed people?
- Do you prefer to work in a team or alone?
- Where do you see yourself in the future (short and long-term)?
- What motivates you?
- What de-motivates you?
- Why should we employ you for this role?
These questions may seem easy at first glance but if you do not prepare properly, you may end up giving one word or short phrase answers to these questions.You may also leave out vital information that the interviewer wants to get out from your answers. Be prepared. Start Now
